I know this information is pretty late coming, but here are the details for the Charlotte preDevCamp.

When: 11AM to 3PM

webOS early access, Sprint Advocates, pre sightings in the wild. With all of this activity, I’m sensing we’ll have a release date to work with soon. That means we’ll also be getting a preDevCamp day soon.

Enough of this waiting stuff.

Charlotte’s preDevCamp is still on. I’m really waiting more on dates before pushing it with a bit more force as it somewhat difficult to say “Hey! Come to our conference about the pre. Yeah, it’ll be, well, sometime in the next few months, but come on!”

We’re starting to see more info show up in the meantime. The Rough Cut of the book, the webinar, and more rumors. I’m still hopeful for the device and the environment.

So, stay tuned. We’ll get more in terms of details in the near future. Please continue to mention this to your peers, especially those that have carried palm devices with them in the past.

The release of the pre has got me thinking about how long I’ve been toting a Palm around. I started off, probably a bit late compared to others, in the mid-90s with my first monochrome Palm III, upgraded to the IIIe for all that extra memory, flirted with the idea of the Handspring cell phone sled add-on only to make the better decision to jump to the Treo 300. I passed through a 600p and the first 700p (the silent mode quit working in the first one and my wife wouldn’t let me use that as an excuse to miss her calls). I still have the second 700p, now rather busted up but mostly operational, and a fully functional 755p as a secondary device. I can’t adequately describe how essential these devices have become in my life, but since you are here, you already know this from your own experience, don’t you?

I think it is safe to say we all have very high hopes for the pre. With this in mind, I’d like to invite folks to preDevCamp in the Charlotte, NC area. As you can imagine, the date, time and location are all TBD. Heck, the pre is still TBD. Nevertheless, I sense that we’ll have a lot to discuss. Questions, tweet me at @davidweddle. I’m looking for co-organizers to help spread out the fun; send me a note if interested.

preDevCamp Is Go!

I just released a post on whurley.com entitled “Phone Warz: Revenge Of The Palm?” discussing how ever since I helped pull together iPhoneDevCamp with Raven Zachary and Chris Messina back in 06, Ive been hawking the other manufacturers looking for a legit challenge to the iPhones throne; secretly to have another event.

Anyway, I was discussing this whole scenario with @Giovanni and @DanCrumb this weekend, and we had quite an amusing round of what-ifs. We had so much fun bumpin our gums, we decided to up the ante. Today @Giovanni, @DanCrumb and I (@whurley) are launching preDevCamp 2009.

The event will be held in around 60 cities around the world exactly one week after the U.S. release of the Palm Pre. Since the phone is Linux+WebKit, development should be easy for us to share the love. Tell your friends. Invite your neighbors. Weve got satellite events lined up in over 30 cities around the world. If you want to enlist, visit the website and tell us your city. If theres not a leader in that city, then you just got promoted.
